Baptism & Membership
Baptism
At Christ Church, we believe baptism is the experience of receiving the Holy Spirit, evident in a changed life (faith, motivations, desires, and character). Baptism by immersion is something a believer requests as a visible sign of the inward change that the Spirit has worked. It signifies the death of the old life and the birth of the new. Baptism is a public witness to a believer’s intention to belong to a local congregation in being a people apprenticed to the life of Jesus.
Membership
On Easter Sunday in 1987, North Langley Community Church launched its first Sunday gathering in the Walnut Grove area. NLCC was founded on a few key distinctives: meaningful worship, a focus on reaching kids and youth, community in weekly gatherings of small groups, and serving and loving the community.
In 2026, NLCC became Christ Church, a new name that reflects the vision to continue multiplying in our surrounding areas. As we grow, we give new communities access to local churches in their neighborhoods, walking in the vision that planted North Langley Community Church decades ago.
The Course:
We run this multi-session course multiple times a year to prepare participants for baptism and/or membership.
As a Mennonite Brethren church, we are part of the Anabaptist tradition, meaning that we practice the baptism of believing adults, and only receive into membership those who have been baptized as adults. If you are baptized here at Christ Church, you also become a member (we explain this in the course). If you came from a Christian tradition that baptized infants, and you have questions about what that might mean, this would be a great course to ask your questions
